The warm sunshine streaming through the window
Belies the cold ache in my heart
As I pull the rings off my finger
Their diamonds sparkling Like the smile in your eyes when you first gave them to
me
The walls are bereft of the pictures of Our Day
Trinkets and books you'd given just to show you cared
The CDs we'd danced to, like two souls blended
Stacked in a box ready for you to take them away
I look in the mirror, and grief stares back If only
I could forget how it was!
To feel your gentle lips on my skin
Your fingers in my hair
The way you sighed your love in every breath
And promised you'd never leave
You thought you had met a Goddess
But I am all too-human
With a fiery temper to match my flirtatious smile
As much a vulnerable girl as a strong woman
We did try; but it wasn't enough
The magic of our love couldn't last
I feel shrunken, lonely, scared
Afraid that I will never feel that joy again
That I had my chance at love and lost it
I feel the brush of warm fur against my hand
And hear a gentle purring of contentment
A long-forgotten smile spreads across my tired face
And I remember:
I am loved
