A match meets its maker
by pebbled water
where life escapes its fate.

A curtain is drawn
by the stems of the tide
towards a frightened land.

Who cries with eyes
that are blind
and seep
with embers
lit
in a furnace
who melted
the maker.

Promised are the meek
who forgo the energy
to speak
with indolent lips
that suck
the oil
from fading floods.

Condemned are the weak
who wilt in colour
to touch
with fleeting hands
that wander
the earth's stage
in grief.

A child
with a wayward heart
left deserted by
the waters edge
which remains polluted
from a stain
in the theatre
of memory
