Fire and Wood.

A small sensual snake lay at the wood's edge warming herself in the morning sun. Her topaz eyes fixed on the visitor in her field. Nearby a horse grazed, unaware he was being admired from afar.
The same sun that warmed her tepid skin was heating the muscles of the athletic chestnut horse.
She watched as fine beads of sweat formed and glistened on his conditioned body. She felt the shiver of instant attraction.
He pawed at the ground unearthing a gnarled knotted tree root. It surrended to his expertise touch. He performed a nodding action as he swallowed the tasty morsel. She watched in awe. He was the most beautiful male she'd seen.
With a reputation for strategy she began to devise a way to approach him without startling his senses and causing him to bolt away.
'Who are you?' she asked in her charming way.
'I am a Horse burdened with the element of Fire' came the rumbling reply.
Momentarily she hesitated, mindful of binding wood and fire. Compelled she continued, 'Well as you can see I am a small but pleasant Wood Snake. Can I warm myself against you for a while?' She gave him her most captivating smile.

They stayed together in her field. Entwined, her soft underbelly wrapped around his hard strong neck.
'I never imagined I'd love a snake' he murmured to her. 'You've captivated me these past weeks.
Her heart and skin were covered with hope and heat.Their pulses kept time.

One day, without warning, a dark shadow fell across the field. A chill more sinister than the setting of the afternoon sun. It crept up on her keen senses and suddenly she was afraid.

A small snake lay warming herself in the morning sun.The tears dried as quickly as they came. Her thin body wasn't built to expend moisture on matters of the heart.
She remembered her beautiful horse. She thought of his majestic stance and the way he'd loved her for a short but succulent time. The endearments exchanged. The companionship they'd shared.
But suddenly he left. He was startled and afraid. Embers burned within stoking a fire that kept him moving on.
He didn't think it right to love forever and so he'd gone.
She knew she was the one for him. However a proud horse never sees himself with a sedentary snake for long.
He trod on her heart as he left and in his haste his hooves had pounded her into the warm brown earth. Her flesh was scorched as he flared away without glancing back.
Her injuries were not fatal so she lay in the woods for days, which turned to months and then into a year as she remembered and repaired.

A small sensual wood snake lay warming herself in the morning sun. Despite hearing the sounds of someone new in her field her topaz eyes were shut; closed to all except the vision of a memory that burned within.
