2 to 6 to 2

What a big family, everyone said. You'll need a bigger car with four.
So tight the house was, like a drum.
When the littlest one grew teenage heels we turned out kiddie toys and covered the carpet with stuff.
Off to the opshop we went, benevolent kings for a day.
Barbies and Bugcatchers, Transformers and teasets for dolls.

Inside, rooms became reinvented, a studio, a guest room, a dog room, a library.
We turned our backs on the baby mural and night glow sheep.

One tried ice, twice. Then he did some more.
One travelled, and worked and visits like a guest.
One, we see at Christmas.
One is still here, for now, at least. Her trail of clothes, evidence. Her facebook friends poke her, and write roffle and lol. She's on the pill, I checked.
The boyfriend seems to have turned her against us , our baby, of the family.

This is how two becomes six then becomes two again.
You think having a baby's hard.

Christine
