Out Of The Darkness

Glancing past its reflective view, the mirror told her time was passing. Lines around her eyes etched life's wait.
She didn't want to see.
She needed to remember how her eyes had lit up his world. He would tell her of their shine and smile with a love that lit up hers.
Her eyes were too full of his light when the smile faded.
She hadn't seen the other woman in the shadows. She didn't want to. It all happened so fast.
In the dark.
She hated the dark. Kept it pushed from her world.
He cooled.
She hoped the winter wouldn't last. She tried to stay in the light.
Her daughter's eyes shone with a smile that lit up the dark corners of the room. Her happiness a warmth that swept away the shadows.
Time passed so fast as their eyes explored the world together.
Full of life. And light. And hope.
The wait passed in a whirl of learning.
The warmth of small hugs lit her smile.
Enough light to mask the shadows.
For now.
Time was passing.
Hope flickered.
The days had a chill if she didn't rug up against it.
They waited for his work day to end.
He breezed in, the cool air wafting her way as he brushed past.
His eyes and arms locked onto his little girl. The innocence of child arms wrapped into his. The happiness in her daughter's eyes was warming.
She stepped back momentarily.
A stream of sunlight caught her in the eyes, blinding her.
For the moment.
