Antarctic slabs of cool, smooth glass
Stretch from horizon to horizon.
A winter of contentment.
Our frozen love.
Agile undercurrents sway below.
Then cracks appear.
A surface of mosaic forms.
Ice like drowning plastic bags
Ice like broken glass
Roll in mesmerising waves.
Building, rolling, pulled from the depths.
A momentum of thick shards in arcs.
The rhythmic pulse of bottomless waves.
A sensation of floating lifts my veins.
Pulling, pushing, the currents of my blood.
Tiny scratches, fragment tears.
The icy shards splinter at invisible angles Barely seen by naked eyes.
In surging waves, thick shattered ice
Rips at my veins from the inside out.
Floodgates wide and raw.
A tumult feigned in rhythmic calmness
Ever lapping at my sides.
Over and over and over.
Until the last shard slips into the dark abyss.
Then nothing.
Stillness stretches from horizon to horizon.
A watery sun hangs low above
A summer of discontent.
Our frozen love
Broken and thawed, drained from its bottomless source,
A crust of salt now lines, an empty ocean of remorse.
