About the competition

In conjunction with the exhibition Love, Loss & Intimacy the NGV invites you to create your own piece of writing exploring notions of love, loss or intimacy, under 500 words. If you're over 18 years of age and a Victorian resident, post your entry on the blog (1 entry per person) for the chance to win a romantic weekend getaway for two at Sofitel Melbourne On Collins and lunch for two at Persimmon.

The judging panel is comprised of three judges: Professor Jennifer Strauss (Editor of the Oxford Anthology of Australian Love Poetry), Penny Modra (Editor of Three Thousand; The Age arts columnist) and Richard Watts (Presenter of SmartArts on TripleR).

Entries accepted until 11 July 2010 and the winner of the competition will be announced and their entry recited on 18 July following on from the 2pm Floor Talk.

It was just a fantasy


The words you said
I gave you my trust, I gave you may heart You told me you loved me, did you mean it

You sent me messages of love, hope and forever I told you everything, we had dreams we shared Did you really mean all those things?

Our passion was intense, explosive, entangling Our bodies ached for each others from our first kiss so long ago.
The passion never subsided, I felt your desire with every kiss squeeze of hand.

We were to share a life together crazy, noisy and busy Share the rest of our life’s together never leave each other It was embraced with every fibre of our beings.

But then out of the blue?..

You tell me you can't go on, you can't keep it going Did you really mean all the things you said and the gestures you gave.

You go and talk to others
Sharing the special things we shared
Will he be the man you want, desire, explode with?

One thing is for sure
My love is only in you and I can never have another
